Truffle Museum

The city’s heritage,
the region’s wealth

The area of San Giovanni d’Asso situated between the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia is truffle territory. Ancient mythology tells us that the truffle (Latin terræ tuber) sprang from a thunderbolt hurled by Jupiter in the direction of an oak tree. The Truffle Museum in San Giovanni d’Asso offers visitors a multi-sensory experience in and around the white truffle, known as the diamond of the Crete Senesi.

Visitors can explore the truffle’s history, scientific characteristics and culinary uses through their senses of touch, hearing and taste, and last but not least through the so-called “odorama”, a merry-go-round devoted to the sense of smell.
